Why Chelsea may have to sell Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher BEFORE 1st July this summer – 101 Great Goals

Chelsea may be forced into selling their stars to Premier League rivals early this summer in a bid to comply with financial fair play regulations after two transfer windows of excessive spending, it has been revealed.

The Blues have spent £500m on 15 new faces in the two windows since Todd Boehly took over, but have had their worst season in recent memory.

As it stands, they sit 11th in the Premier League, and a meek 4-0 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid saw them crash out of the Champions League at the last 8 stage, effectively ending their hopes of playing European football next season.

A massive clear out will undoubtedly follow this summer, with the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Callum Hudson Odoi among those with one foot already out of the door.

But there will also be tough choices, with no European football leaving them precariously placed with regards to financial fair play regulations.

Having registered a loss of £343m in the past four seasons, and over £100m in their most recent year, they are under some pressure to raise funds fast. And, selling a homegrown talent would allow them to register all of the money as profit, a massive bonus for FFP concerns.

The deadline is July 1st, which means that, as per the Athletic, ‘there is a growing perception within English football that there may be a fire sale at Stamford Bridge in the final days of June’, and the club ‘would hope to raise north of £100m for Mount and Gallagher if they decide to sell both’.

Liverpool are thought to be leading the interest in Mount, who is out of contract in 2024 and has so far been unwilling to extend his time in west London.

Meanwhile, Everton saw a bid for Conor Gallagher turned down in January, and Newcastle are also among those keeping tabs on the young Englishman.

All interested parties will be hoping that, as the pressure to balance the books increases on Chelsea, better prices for the pair will become available.
