United States – Netherlands headlines This Week’s Soccer on TV
The U.S. women’s national team’s quest to win its third-consecutive World Cup continues on Wednesday when the defending champions take on the Netherlands in rematch of the 2019 final.
Both counties won their opening matches over the weekend and will look to extend the good fortune into Wednesday’s mouth-watering tie.
Sophia Smith led the way for the USMNT in Friday’s 3-0 triumph over Vietnam by scoring two goals and adding one assist. Although the Americans dominated the chances, Vlatko Andonovski will be hoping for a more clinical attack against the stubborn Dutch defense.
The Netherlands scraped Portugal 1-0 thanks to a first-half winner from Stefanie van Der Grant. The Dutch were rarely troubled defensive as goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar was only forced into making one save.
In the U.S., the Leagues Cup continues with Inter Miami and Atlanta United clashing at DRV PNK Stadium in the second group stage match of Group J.
Lionel Messi made his highly-anticipated debut for Inter Miami on Friday night by coming off the bench and scoring a 94th minute free-kick to steal three points in a 2-1 victory over Cruz Azul. Messi will captain the side against the Five Stripes while former Barcelona standout Sergio Busquets also aims for a first start.
It should also be a memorable night for Herons head coach Tata Martino, who faces off with the team he led to an MLS Cup title with in 2018.
Leagues Cup action continues with Liga MX giants Club America going head-to-head with St. Louis City SC. The MLS expansion side are off to a fantastic start in their inaugural season currently holding the No.1 spot in the Western Conference.
Some of Europe’s biggest clubs continue their United States preseason tour this week with multiple must-watch matches on the schedule.
In California, two of Italy’s biggest clubs go head-to-head as Juventus faces off with AC Milan. AC Milan suffered a 3-2 loss to Real Madrid on Sunday while Juventus’ opening match against Barcelona was postponed.
USMNT forward Christian Pulisic takes the pitch for his second match for the Rossoneri after registering an assist in his club debut.
In Texas, La Liga meets English Premier League as Real Madrid faces off with Manchester United. The Red Devils topped Arsenal 2-0 in front of a sold-out crowd at MetLife Stadium on Saturday.
