UEFA Champions League: Man City-Bayern headlines quarterfinal draw

Real Madrid, Manchester City and Bayern Munich went into Friday’s UEFA Champions League draw considered the three favorites to win the competition. The draw has set it up now that only one of those teams can be left standing when the final rolls around in June.

Manchester City and Bayern Munich were drawn against each other in the quarterfinals by Friday’s draw, with the winner lining up to face the winner of the Real Madrid-Chelsea quarterfinal.

As much as that draw set up as a nightmare for the favorites, the other side of the bracket laid out a dream scenario for Serie A clubs, and Napoli in particular. The runaway Italian League leaders will face AC Milan in the quarterfinals before taking on the winner of the Inter Milan-Benfica quarterfinal in the semis.

Napoli had already established itself as a popular darkhorse pick before Friday’s draw, but now with a clear path to the final. the presumptive Serie A champions are now arguably the best bet of the eight remaining teams to secure a place in the June 10th final in Istanbul.

The draw sets up some reunions, including Carlo Ancelotti leading the reigning champions against his former employers Chelsea. Pep Guardiola will also see a former employer when Manchester City takes on Bayern.
