Tyler Adams nearing Bournemouth debut after lengthy injury spell
Tyler Adams isn’t expected to play a part in AFC Bournemouth’s English Premier League match with Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend but is making continued progress ahead of a potential club debut this fall.
Adams has returned to Bournemouth training this week and is gearing up to get back to action with the Cherries. The 24-year-old made a permanent move to the Vitality Stadium earlier this summer from Leeds United, following the Lilywhites’ relegation to the English second-tier.
However, Adams has been sidelined from club and international duty due to a hamstring injury he suffered in March.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola hasn’t confirmed an official return date for Adams this fall, but is eager to have him back in October.
“I think the only one that is not [recovered] so far is Tyler, who will not be [ready] for the Brighton game, but he has started this week at least to train partially with the group,” Iraola said Friday in his pre-match press conference.
“So probably we can have a chance of having him next week or two weeks, something like this. Tyler is really close because once you start training partially with the group, it’s a matter of sensations, and if you are physically good enough. He has a very good physical base. So I think it will take not a long time to see Tyler with the team.”
Adams made 26 combined appearances for Leeds United last season under Jesse Marsch and Javi Gracia following his transfer from RB Leipzig in 2022. He finished the campaign as one of the Lilywhites’ top performers despite missing the final two months of the season through injury.
He was one of several acquisitions made by the Cherries this summer, filling the void left by veteran midfielder Jefferson Lerma.
Bournemouth visits Brighton on Sunday in league play before hosting Stoke City on Wednesday (EFL Cup) and Arsenal (EPL) on Sept. 30.
