  • That’s it for today on talkSPORT.com’s transfer news blog.

We’ll be back in the morning with the latest on all the big transfer stories.

  • Wolves boss Gary O’Neil says no new bid has come in from Manchester City for Matheus Nunes.

O’Neil also offered a route back into the first-team should the move not materialise despite the midfielder’s decision to go on strike in an attempt to push through the transfer.

“I will expect him back with the group, yeah,” O’Neil told talkSPORT after Wolves’ win over Blackpool in the Carabao Cup. “It’s down to Matheus when he returns so as far as I’m aware nothing has changed in the 90 minutes that I was out there…

“There’s been no improved bid. He’s our player who has four years left on his contract remaining. I don’t like to answer hypothetical questions on if there’s another bid. So the bid that we had was rejected, Matheus is our player.

“I’m hopeful we can get him back in the group. Obviously we need to speak to him because there’s ways you should and shouldn’t deal with things but I’d rather speak to Matheus about that rather than you guys.

“We’ll deal with the situation and we’ll move on.”

“I only want people who are willing to push in the same direction but I’m still confident that Matheus would want to do that,” O’Neil added.

“Let’s see what happens in the next few days but I’m confident that come September 2nd we’ll be in a better place than we are now.”

  • Aston Villa have held talks with Barcelona over a move for defender Clement Lenglet.

Lenglet spent last season on loan at Tottenham but Barca are hoping for a permanent sale this summer.

The 28-year-old has been a Barcelona player since 2018.

  • Brighton have confirmed the signing of Cameroonian midfielder Carlos Baleba.

The 19-year-old joins from French club Lille on a five-year deal.

Seagulls boss Roberto De Zerbi said: ““Carlos is a very good player. He’s very young but a specific player for our style. He will be the future of the club.”

  • Wolves have allowed Portugal international Goncalo Guedes to return to Benfica on loan in a move which could allow Gary O’Neil to strengthen his squad in the final days of the transfer window.

The 26-year-old Guedes has never managed to settle in the Black Country since a £27million move from Valencia last summer, and joined Benfica on loan last January before a knee injury ended his season prematurely in March.

With Wolves braced for the possible loss of Matheus Nunes to Manchester City before Friday’s transfer deadline, sporting director Matt Hobbs said Guedes’ loan, which will run for the full season, will clear up space on the Molineux wage bill that could be used in other deals.

“After the tough period Goncalo had with the injury last year, it’s important for him to go out and get as many minutes as possible, in an environment he knows well, at a club which knows him well – they’ve been a big part of his rehab, so it’s a move which makes sense,” Hobbs said.

“We had to make sure he was going to play enough and with all the competitions Benfica are in, he’s going to play a lot of games. He’s just become a father for the first time and now has a son there, so he’ll be happy off the pitch, which will hopefully allow him to perform on it.

“Also, the fact we can use his wages to hopefully supplement other deals this last week (of the window) can only be a positive for us. It frees up money to be spent elsewhere and gives him an opportunity to play games.”

  • Eric Dier is not in Tottenham’s squad for their Carabao Cup clash tonight.

But Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Davinson Sanchez and Giovani Lo Celso, who have also been linked with moves away from Spurs this summer all start the clash against Fulham.

Meanwhile, Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo isn’t in their squad amid reports linking him with a move to Monaco.

Tonight’s opponents for Spurs are among the clubs tracking Dier as well as German champions Bayern Munich.

Listen to full commentary of Fulham vs Tottenham live on talkSPORT 2, kick-off 7:45pm.

  • Tottenham are actively looking to sell England defender Eric Dier before Friday’s transfer deadline, talkSPORT understands.

The 29-year-old has just a year left on his Spurs contract and hasn’t been offered a new one.

  • Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is in danger of having his suspension increased after being hit with a Football Association charge.

The defender has been charged with using ‘abusive or insulting’ words towards a match official after being sent off during Liverpool’s win at Newcastle on Sunday.

Van Dijk will definitely be suspended for the Reds’ next outing, which sees them face Aston Villa on Sunday, but could have his ban extended in light of the charge.

He has until Friday to provide a response to the FA charge.

  • Romelu Lukaku has landed in Rome ahead of his loan move to the Serie A club.

The Chelsea forward is on the verge of completing his temporary switch to Roma, which will see him reunite with Jose Mourinho for a third time.

Earlier today the Belgium international, who has seen switches to Inter Milan and Juventus fall through this summer, was filmed getting off a plane in Italy’s capital as he closes in on the transfer.

  • Marc Cucurella is Manchester United’s top emergency left-back target, talkSPORT understands.

Man United have formally approached Chelsea about signing Cucurella on loan and the Spaniard is open to the move.

talkSPORT also understands the Red Devils have been tracking Cucurella, who was linked with Manchester City last summer, since he was at Brighton.

  • Nuno Tavares is closing in on a loan move from Arsenal to Nottingham Forest, talkSPORT understands.

The two clubs are in the final stages of negotiations.

Tavares was at Marseille last season, which saw him score six goals in 31 Ligue 1 games.

He is yet to feature under Mikel Arteta this campaign with the player not in the Spaniard’s plans.

  • Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom’s main focus this week will be on the transfer market rather than his side’s Carabao Cup tie against Lincoln.

Cameron Archer became the Blades’ eighth summer signing last week when sealing his move from Aston Villa and Heckingbottom is keen strengthen further before Friday’s transfer deadline.

Iliman Ndiaye, Sander Berge, Billy Sharp and Enda Stevens have departed Bramall Lane this summer and Heckingbottom is expecting a a late flurry of activity.

He said: “I want as many as possible. Me and (club owner) Prince Abdullah speak all the time and he would want as many as possible.

“There is only so much in terms of resources. We are going to work as hard as we can to end the window as strong as we possibly can.

“How many do we want? As many as possible and I may have to leave people out of the 25 as well. Realistically, we know how tough it is to get players in. That’s going to be our focus over the next few days.”

  • Isaac Hayden’s loan move from Newcastle to Luton has fallen through, talkSPORT understands.

Midfielder Hayden had been given permission to undergo a medical with the Premier League newcomers.

The ex-Arsenal man, who played twice under Arsene Wenger, is not in Eddie Howe’s plans and is free to find a new club.

He was shipped off on loan to Norwich last season, where knee injuries limited him to 14 Championship appearances.

In total, the 28-year-old has featured in 171 games for the Magpies in all competitions since joining in 2016.

  • Arsenal have reportedly knocked back an approach from Chelsea for Hale End graduate Emile Smith Rowe.

It has been claimed that the Blues are in for the 23-year-old, who is yet to feature in the Premier League this season.

The Times have stated that he has been offered to unnamed Premier League clubs having fallen down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta.

And now the Daily Mail have stated that Chelsea have turned their interest into a formal enquiry – which Arsenal instantly rebuffed.

The news outlet has declared that Arsenal are not willing to sell to a direct rival.

That is despite Chelsea willing to include players in the deal to tempt the Gunners into negotiations.

Though the Mail have insisted that should Chelsea pay well over the odds for Smith Rowe, Arsenal could be willing to do business.

But as it stands, there is minimal chance of the England international swapping the Emirates for Stamford Bridge.

  • Luton have joined the race to sign Arsenal defender Rob Holding, talkSPORT understands.

Holding also has interest from Spain, where he could join teammate Kieran Tierney following his loan switch to Real Sociedad.

Sevilla and Mallorca have the ex-Bolton centre-back on their radar.

Meanwhile Turkish outfit Besiktas also hold interest in the 27-year-old.

Arsenal are prepared for his departure, and will not stand in his way of an exit before the transfer window closes.

  • Bayern Munich are reportedly considering a swoop to sign Tottenham star Eric Dier.

After prising Harry Kane away from Spurs, it has been said that his England international teammate could be next.

According to Sky Germany, Thomas Tuchel is a fan of the 29-year-old’s versatility in being able to play as a centre-back or defensive midfielder.

“I know the club is working very hard to try to finish our business, Something may happen, maybe yes.

“At the moment, only working and trying the club to deliver what we want.”

  • Wolves are hoping to complete the signing of Paraguayan winger Enso Gonzalez, talkSPORT understands.

Gonzalez, 18, who plays for Libertad, is regarded as one of South America’s most promising young players.

The talented teenager has chipped in with three goals and two assists in 30 games in all competitions in the 2023 season so far.

It looks set to be a busy final few days for the Molineux outfit before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the week.

Matheus Nunes is facing an uncertain future as Manchester City look to snap him.

Meanwhile Daniel Podence could depart the Midlands having failed to feature in the Premier League this campaign.

  • Everton have announced the signing of Portuguese striker Beto from Udinese on a four-year deal.

It is understood that the Toffees have forked out around £25million to bring the 25-year-old to Goodison Park.

The Merseyside outfit are in dire need of goals, with Sean Dyche’s side the only Premier League team yet to score so far this season.

Speaking of his delight at the move, Everton’s new No.14 said: “It feels good to join Everton. I have always appreciated them as a club.

“Everton is a big, big club in the Premier League, well respected and has big history. It was easy to make this move.”

He added: “I can bring courage, I can bring confidence and I think my biggest thing is effort. I will always bring enthusiasm to the team and to our games. I feel like my style is a really good fit with Everton.

  • Tottenham are happy to keep Davinson Sanchez at the club beyond the summer, talkSPORT understands.

The Colombian centre-back has been heavily linked with a move away from Spurs this transfer window.

But it is believed that new boss Ange Postecoglou has been impressed by what he has seen of the 27-year-old.

Sanchez has been eyed up by Nottingham Forest and Ligue 1 outfit Rennes this summer.

  • Fulham have held talks with Everton to sign ex-Arsenal star Alex Iwobi, talkSPORT understands.

The Nigerian international could be heading back to Arsenal – four years after swapping the Emirates for Goodison Park.

With just one year left on his deal in Merseyside, Everton are willing to part ways with the 27-year-old.

Iwobi has featured in 140 games for Everton in all competitions, chipping in with nine goals.

He featured in the club’s opening two Premier League matches, before a hamstring injury kept him out of Saturday’s defeat to Wolves.

  • An update on Leeds’ proposed move for Djed Spence.

talkSPORT understands that the right-back is close to joining the Whites on loan for the 2023/24 season.

He was shipped off to Ligue 1 outfit Rennes on loan in January after being deemed as surplus to requirements under Antonio Conte.

And he isn’t in new boss Ange Postecoglou’s plans for this campaign, with Emerson Royal and Pedro Porro preffered instead.

It marks a return to the Championship for Spence, who helped Nottingham Forest secure promotion to the Premier League in 2022.
