Tottenham 0-2 Arsenal: Match report, player ratings & fan reaction

After Manchester City lost on Saturday, Arsenal were once again looking to extend their lead atop of the Premier League to eight points with a win on Sunday.

Tottenham, meanwhile, were looking to regain some ground on the top-four.

And when all was said and done, Arsenal came away with a huge win.

Arsenal should have taken the lead six minutes in. Two poor clearances saw the ball fall to Gabriel Martinelli, who flicked the ball to Eddie Nketiah. The striker then should have scored but his effort was tame and easily saved by Hugo Lloris.

The Gunners took the lead eight minutes later when Bukayo Saka burst down the right and saw his attempted cross pushed straight into the Spurs net by Lloris.

Tottenham’s first big chance came shortly after the Arsenal goal when Heung-min Son was slipped in and saw his powerful effort saved well by Aaron Ramsdale.

But Arsenal continued to pile pressure on the Lilywhites, with Martin Odegaard’s long-distance effort forcing a good save out of Lloris.

The Norweigan got his goal 35 minutes in. Saka picked out Odegaard who was completely free on the edge of the box before smashing past Lloris.

Tottenham began the second 45 with a much higher tempo, with Harry Kane testing Ramsdale on two occasions shortly after the break.

Kane then played in Ryan Sessegnon with a superb pass before the wing-back also forced a good save out of Ramsdale.

But with 20 minutes to go, Tottenham were still 2-0 down. This saw Antonio Conte take off Matt Doherty for Richarlison, moving Cristiano Romero to right-back and switching to a back-four.

However, the changes had little impact and the Gunners were able to see out the win.

Match reaction

I’m not into conspiracy theories but has anyone ever seen Lloris and a chocolate tea pot in the same room?
