Tony Bloom sets expectations as interest in Moisés Caicedo hits its stride – 101 Great Goals

The future of Brighton starlet Moisés Caicedo appears to be moving toward concrete resolution as struggling Premier League giants Chelsea are now reported frontrunners for the Ecuadorian midfielder.

According to an update provided by the Telegraph’s Matt Law, the free-spending Blues are in pole position in the foot-race for the standout Seagulls midfielder, but the price could be in excess of the originally reported £80m desire that dominated headlines not too long ago.

Brighton owner Tony Bloom will look to receive the maximum compensation possible for the club’s central gem after already losing Alexis Mac Allister to Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool, with the Seagulls chief valuing Caicedo as high as £120m.

That price comes in nearly £40m higher than what clubs were willing to pay for him six months ago when both Chelsea and Arsenal were on his coattails during a competitive January market that saw the pair also tussle over Ukrainian wonderkid Mykhailo Mudryk.

It is anticipated that Brighton will not receive a fee that high, which would make Caicedo the most expensive player in Premier League history, a mark that was recently set by Chelsea in the immediate aftermath of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar when they leaped at the chance to add Enzo Fernández into the senior setup at Stamford Bridge for a reported ~£107m.

According to Law’s update, “While there is no prospect of a club paying that much for Caicedo, Chelsea will certainly have to pay well over £80m to land the Ecuador international or agree to allow a player to move in the opposite direction.”

One such player-plus-cash swap could see Conor Gallagher find new pastures to roam south of the capital, while Brighton has also expressed interest in making highly-touted center-back Levi Colwill a permanent fixture on the south coast before the Blues shot such an advance down.

With Arsenal’s interest in Caicedo apparently now cooled as of earlier today, the pathway to London for Caicedo seemingly will see him remain in blue.
