Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been found guilty of breaching betting rules, and has been slapped with an eight-month ban with immediate effect as a result.
England’s Football Association (FA) also fined the 27-year-old £50 000 (R1.2 million) for his actions between February 2017 and January 2021, during which he was found to have broken the rules on 232 occasions.
The Bees responded to the ruling on Wednesday night with a statement on their official website.
“Brentford FC is currently awaiting the publication of the written reasons of the independent Regulatory Commission. We will review them before considering our next steps,” it read, according to CNN.

Toney, meanwhile, released one of his own on his social media platforms, admitting his disappointment with the punishment he has received.
“Today I have received notification of my eight-month ban from football following a hearing before an FA Regulatory Commission that took place yesterday,” he stated.
“I am naturally disappointed that I will not be able to play for the next eight months.
“The written reasons for the Commission’s decision have not yet been published, so I make no further comment at this point other than to thank my family and friends, Brentford and our fans for their continued support, through what has been a very difficult time.
“I now focus on returning to play the game I love next season.”
The FA has stated that Toney will be able to return to training at Brentford in the final four months of his suspension.
