Sergino Dest starts in crucial Champions League win for PSV
Dutch side PSV extended its point streak to three-straight matches in the UEFA Champions League group stage with Sergino Dest helping the Eredivisie squad greatly on Wednesday night.
Dest started and played 90 minutes as PSV defeated Ligue 1 visitors Lens 1-0 at the Philips Stadion. The U.S. men’s national team defender continued his role at left back in Peter Bosz’s squad as PSV moved to second in Group B on five points.
Luuk De Jong’s 12th minute goal was all PSV needed to claim three points while goalkeeper Walter Benitez made three saves to preserve the clean sheet.
Dest, 23, won three duels, made two clearances, one tackle, and four recoveries in a solid shift at left back. It marked Dest’s fourth-consecutive start in group stage play and sixth overall this season in the tournament.
Fellow USMNT teammate Malik Tillman excelled off the bench, winning five duels, completing four tackles, and drawing one foul in his 24-minute cameo. Ricardo Pepi played the final minutes of second-half stoppage time as he also entered the fray.
PSV has two group stage matches left in the competition, a trip to Sevilla on Nov. 29 before a home date with group-leading Arsenal on Dec. 12.
