Saudi Pro League: Super Eagles 2019 AFCON hero suffers relegation with Al Wehda, clutch Godwin Saviour saves Al Okhdood
Al Wehda, the club of Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo have been relegated from the Saudi Arabian Pro League, following a 2-1 loss to Al Ettifaq in their final game of the season, Soccernet.ng reports.
Al Wehda have struggled this season, and going into the final game of their season, they needed a win against AL Ettifaq to preserve their status in the Saudi top-flight.
2019 Africa Cup of Nations Golden Boot winner Odion Ighalo has been important for them this season, contributing six goals and two assists, and they needed him to deliver the goods in their final game. Unfortunately for them, he failed to deliver.

Abdullah Radif scored the opener for Al Ettifaq in the 45th minute, but Al Wehda leveled the scoring through Jawad El Yamiq in the 70th minute.
However, Ighalo’s team failed to build on the momentum. They eventually conceded in stoppage time, as the game ended 2-1 in Al Ettifaq’s favour. Ighalo was ineffective, as he had just two shots in the game.
Al Wehda’s loss to Al Ettifaq means that they finish the season in 16th with 33 points. If they had won, they would have leap-frogged Al Okhdood who finished the season in 15th.
Hence, Ighalo and his Al Wehda side will spend next season in the Saudi Arabian Division 1.

Al Okhdood needed a miracle in their final game of the season to avoid relegation. They needed to beat Al Khaleej and hope that Al Wehda lost.
Although Al Wehda lost, Al Okhdood nearly bottled it. After a goalless first half, Al Khaleej struck twice withing the opening 15 minutes to gain a 2-0 lead. However, Saviour and his Al Khaleej side produced a dramatic comeback.
Muhannad Al Qaydhi pulled one back in the 65th minute. Then, Saviour assisted Saleh Al Abbas’ equalizer in the fifth minute of stoppages.
