Man United star rejects lucrative Saudi move
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim will likely be busy this summer as he attempts to fine-tune his squad before next season.
The Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League after a disastrous campaign, meaning they won’t be in Europe next term.
Defeat against rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final piled yet more pressure on the Portuguese, who will be desperate to bolster his squad with some of his own signings this summer.
Now, though, it appears that United have been handed some good news.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has rejected a proposed move to Saudi Arabia.
Romano claims that the United captain has snubbed the idea of joining Pro League side Al-Hilal, despite a lucrative offer from the Saudi side.
Fernandes, 30, scored 19 goals and provided the same number of assists in 58 matches for the Red Devils last term, despite the team’s struggles.
It is claimed that the Portugal international is keen to remain in Europe and has therefore rejected the proposed move to Saudi Arabia.
Since jointing United from Sporting CP in 2020, midfielder Fernandes has played 290 times for the Manchester club across all competitions, scoring 98 goals and registering 86 assists.
Romano claims that the Portuguese midfielder is keen to continue competing at the top level in Europe, hence the decision to reject a huge contract offer from Al-Hilal.
Fernandes’ contract with Manchester United is currently set to run until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, but it remains to be seen whether or not he will remain part of Amorim’s squad at the start of next season.
