Can Everton give fans more reasons to ‘smile’?

The Merseyside derby has not been a happy fixture for Everton in recent years.

Their win at Anfield in 2021 is the only time they have been able to celebrate beating their local rivals since 2010.

They do, though, go into the weekend’s clash with spirits lifted after not only getting the three points against Bournemouth last time out, but scoring more than once at home in a league game for the first time in a year.

It was a result that gave plenty of cheer for manager Sean Dyche.

“I am very pleased for the players and I am not saying it was a ‘complete’ performance but certainly a very good one,” said Dyche.

“A winning performance and the pleasing thing was the calmness of the players to take the game on again.

“Question marks start getting asked when you have so many chances and you don’t score so I was pleased to stay calm and deliver another very good performance and of course get the goals to reward the fans for their support.

“It is not just about before the international break, it is about winning. The more you win, the more people smile.”
