Gift Orban’s Gent boss reveals why he did not sign Victor Boniface

Gift Orban’s Gent boss reveals why he did not sign Victor Boniface

Victor Boniface has been impressive for Union SG this season, scoring a total of 22 goals in all 53 appearances this season

KAA Gent manager, Hein Vanhaezebrouck, has explained why the team decided against signing Bodø/Glimt’s big Nigerian forward Victor Boniface, soccernet.ng understands.

The club reportedly had reservations about signing the 22-year-old star after he had two knee injuries that kept him out of action for some time, according to the former Anderlecht boss.

The Nigerian attacker missed a total of 69 games as a result of cruciate ligament ruptures he suffered in the 2018–19 and 2020–21 seasons.

Vanhaezebrouck, who enticed Boniface’s colleague, Gift Orban, from Stabaek Fotbal in the January transfer window, just as Union Saint Gilloise enticed Boniface from Norway, has recognised Boniface’s outstanding achievement this year.

The Nigerian sensation has been fantastic for Union SG this season, totaling 22 goals and 11 assists. He was particularly brilliant in the UEFA Europa League competition, where he briefly held the top scoring record.

A number of elite European teams are interested in signing the Nigerian attacker when the summer transfer market opens as a result of his remarkable performance.

The Nigerian was on the club’s transfer list, according to the former Genk boss, who was divulging some transfer information.

“Boniface was also on our list, but there were doubts within the club after two serious knee injuries. What he showed this year is even better than what he showed in Norway.” he said, as quoted by voetbalnieuws.

In the last must-win playoff Championship Group matchup between his club and Royal Antwerp and Club Brugge, the Nigerian star will be attempting to secure the Jupiler Pro League tie.
