German giants Bayern interested in Chelsea star
Chelsea face MLS side LAFC in their first group stage match at the FIFA Club World Cup on Monday 16 June.
The Blues won the competition back in 2021 but it has since been revamped and expanded to include 32 teams, including their Premier League rivals Manchester City.
Enzo Maresca’s side will also face Brazilian outfit Flamengo and Tunisian side ES Tunis in the group phase, with the tournament taking place in the United States.
In the meantime, it has emerged that one of Chelsea’s squad players has attracted interest from elsewhere.
According to Ben Jacobs, German giants Bayern Munich remain interested in Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku.
The 27-year-old joined Chelsea from German side RB Leipzig in 2023 but was plagued by injuries during his first season in London.
He remained fit for the majority of last term, but was unable to cement himself as a regular starter in the Premier League under Maresca, with his game time largely limited to the domestic cup competitions and the Europa Conference League.
The Frenchman scored 14 times across in 42 appearances all competitions last term but started just nine of the Blues’ 38 Premier League games.
Jacobs claims that, when Bayern enquired about the France international in January, he was valued by his current employers at more than £60 million.
It remains to be seen whether or not that price tag may have changed, but it appears increasingly likely that Nkunku will depart Stamford Bridge this summer.
The Frenchman’s contract is set to run until the end of the 2028/29 campaign, having signed a long-term contract when he arrived in London two years ago.
