FC Cincinnati – New England Revolution headlines This Weekend’s Soccer on TV
Major League Soccer continues with three top-of-the-table battles this weekend across both conferences.
In the East, first place FC Cincinnati hosts second place New England Revolution in this weekend’s headlining match. The two clubs faced back in April and split points in a 1-1 draw.
Pat Noonan and his side suffered a shocking defeat last weekend, falling to DC United 3-0 at Audi Field. It was FC Cincy’s first loss since April 5.
The Revs visit TQL Stadium on a six-match unbeaten run and will look to close the gap between themselves and FC Cincinnati in a massive match for Bruce Arena’s men.
Luciano Acosta leads FC Cincy with nine goals and four assists this season, while New England’s Carles Gil is tied for the assist lead with nine of his own.
In the West, only two points separate third place Seattle and fourth place Houston ahead of their showdown this weekend. The Sounders welcome the Dynamo to Lumen Field after winning the reverse fixture 1-0 back in May.
Despite holding onto third place, The Rave Green have not won a single match in the month of June losing three and drawing two of their last five matches. Houston will look to regain form after losing to in-state rivals Austin FC 3-0.
MLS action continues Saturday night in Dallas when Los Angeles FC visits Toyota Stadium to take on FC Dallas. The Black and Gold will look to take advantage of an FC Dallas side that is without Jesus Ferreira due to international duty.
The Concacaf Gold Cup also continues with the U.S. men’s national team facing Trinidad & Tobago in its final Group A match.
The USMNT rolled to its first victory of the Gold Cup on Wednesday, routing Saint Kitts and Nevis 6-0 in St. Louis. Jesus Ferreira registered a hat trick of goals to help his team collect an important three points.
AZ Alkmaar’s attacking midfielder Djordje Mihailovic showed glimmers of world-class talent in his Man of the Match performance registering two goals and two assist in the USMNT’s convincing victory as well.
