Exclusive: Liverpool, Tottenham ‘hugely keen’ on world-class star ‘almost certain’ to leave current club; Chelsea lagging behind in race

Josko Gvardiol and Kylian Mbappe

Premier League sides Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City are all desperate to secure the services of defender Josko Gvardiol, while Chelsea are ‘anything but favourites’ to land him, TEAMtalk understands.

Everyone is talking about Jude Bellingham and the midfielder having teams queuing up for him this summer, but someone wanted by just as many big clubs, if not more, is Gvardiol. The centre-back came very close to joining Chelsea last summer, when they struck a deal for his team-mate Christopher Nkunku. The Blues did not quite get Gvardiol’s move over the line and they have now been left regretting that failure.

Gvardiol had lots of interest prior to the World Cup thanks to his reliable displays with RB Leipzig. But in Qatar the 21-year-old secured his place as the best young defender in the world.

Chelsea remain interested in Gvardiol despite the January capture of French centre-half Benoit Badiashile, who cost £35million when joining from Monaco. But the Blues are now anything but favourites to land the brilliant Gvardiol.

TEAMtalk understands Liverpool, Tottenham and City are all hugely keen on the Croatia international. They love the fact he is young, left-sided, comfortable on the ball and physically strong – he has everything a defender needs to shine at the very top.

Gvardiol being such a huge talent means it is not very surprising that Real Madrid are also on his trail.

Big Josko Gvardiol, Jude Bellingham decisions pending

TEAMtalk has been told that Gvardiol is going to take his time, a bit like Borussia Dortmund’s Bellingham. He does not wish to be rushed into a move which might not be the perfect one for his career.

However, it is now almost certain that he departs Leipzig in the summer transfer window. Liverpool, Spurs, City and Real are the main clubs vying to snap him up.

Meanwhile, journalist Ben Jacobs has named five clubs Roberto Firmino could join when leaving Anfield at the end of his contract.
