Everton set for potential points deduction after FFP breach – 101 Great Goals
Premier League outfit Everton could face a serious punishment, after allegedly being found guilty of breaching the division’s financial rules and regulations.
In a statement released late on Friday, it was confirmed that the Toffees have been referred to an independent commission regarding the matter.
The breach alleged by the Premier League comes in relation to the period ending with the 2021-22 season.
As per Sky Sports:
‘The Premier League has referred the alleged breach to Murray Rosen KC, who is the chair of the Premier League Judicial Panel.
‘Rosen will establish a three-member panel who will form the independent commission. These members can be selected from the 15 members of the Judicial Panel, but they can also be non-members.’
Should the powers that be at Goodison Park ultimately be found guilty by the commission in question, they could face a serious sanction, ranging from a fine to a points deduction.
Any such punishment would likely be appealed, though.
In an official statement of their own in response to the matter, Everton have since confirmed their intention to ‘robustly defend its position to the commission’:
“The club strongly contests the allegation of non-compliance and together with its independent team of experts is entirely confident that it remains compliant with all financial rules and regulations.
“Everton is prepared to robustly defend its position to the commission. The club has, over several years, provided information to the Premier League in an open and transparent manner and has consciously chosen to act with the utmost good faith at all times.”
