Arsenal to refuse offers for defender in January
Arsenal face another huge test of their Premier League title credentials when they travel to face Liverpool on Saturday.
The Gunners currently sit a point clear of the Reds at the summit of the league table, while third-placed Aston Villa could also ensure that they sit top at Christmas if they beat Sheffield United and the game at Anfield ends in a draw.
Mikel Arteta will be desperate to see his side beat Liverpool and retain first place, having narrowly missed out to champions Manchester City last season.
With that in mind, it appears that the Gunners will reject interest in one of their defenders next month.
Poland international Jakub Kiwior will not be allowed to leave during the January transfer window despite interest in him, according to The Evening Standard.
The report claims that the North London club will reject interest in the Polish defender, who has attracted interest from several Italian clubs including AC Milan.
Kiwior, 23, joined Arsenal from Serie A side Spezia in January this year and has since made 21 appearances for the club across all competitions, including 13 so far this season.
He has also featured more prominently of late, starting two of the Gunners’ last four matches.
During the most recent summer transfer window, Arsenal rejected interest from Spanish side Sevilla in Kiwior, who is capable of playing at left-back or centre-back.
Injuries in defence have been a particular problem for Arteta so far this season, with Jurrien Timber having been sidelined since the first match of the season, and more recently Takehiro Tomiyasu having been ruled out.
That has left the Spaniard relatively short of options at the back, and it appears that the club are therefore unwilling to let Kiwior leave next month.
