Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Turner, Reyna, and more

Matt Turner has delivered strong performances against Arsenal and Manchester United during the early stages of the English Premier League season, but Saturday’s trip to defending champions Manchester City is a whole new animal for the U.S. men’s national team goalkeeper.

Turner and his Forest teammates make the Saturday trip to the Etihad Stadium, with hopes of pulling a major upset. The veteran shot-stopper recently made two saves in a 1-1 draw with Burnley on Monday, continuing to hold the No. 1 spot in Steve Cooper’s squad. Turner has only featured once against Manchester City, suffering a 1-0 FA Cup loss to the Citizens in last season’s competition. Turner will need to be heroic on Saturday if Nottingham Forest wants to avoid a lopsided loss against one of Europe’s top attacking units.

Elsewhere in England, Tim Ream, Antonee Robinson and Fulham take on Chris Richards in a London Derby. Haji Wright and Coventry City close the weekend with a showdown against Huddersfield Town.

In Germany, Gio Reyna and Borussia Dortmund host Wolfsburg in Bundesliga action. Paxten Aaronson and Eintracht Frankfurt face Freiburg.

In Spain, Luca De La Torre and Celta Vigo face off with Barcelona.

Elsewhere, Dante Polvara and Aberdeen host Ross Country in SPFL action. Sergino Dest, Malik Tillman, Ricardo Pepi and PSV take on Almere City. Tanner Tessmann, Gianluca Busio and Venezia visit Brescia in Serie B action.
